Open to London hybrid roles

Marketing communications & campaigns lead

I plan, write and deliver marketing that earns attention.

I'm James, a marketer with 4+ years' experience across campaigns, websites, editorial, events and CRM. I like doing the work and being able to show what changed afterwards.

Selected work / 2021—26

Six substantial pieces of work—and two early commercial wins.

Together they show the range of work I can own: acquisition, campaign creative, websites, editorial, events, training, CRM and reporting.

01 / Audience campaign

Natural Cement Ireland webinar campaign.

A coordinated campaign for contractors, consultants and specifiers that generated 109 registrations and 65 live attendees.

The brief

Build an audience for a specialist technical webinar, with a particular focus on Ireland, without relying on one announcement and a reminder the day before.

What I did

I planned the campaign, wrote and designed the content, built the email sequence, organised partner and staff amplification, managed the event logistics and planned the follow-up.

02 / Website, content & design

Website and content growth at Natural Cement.

I used customer projects, technical expertise and campaign ideas to give the website a steady flow of useful, measurable content.

Campaign design

A three-part visual series from a wider sustainability campaign. I built the creative system in Canva and adapted the message across social, website and email.

Content and SEO

Customer projects became search-led case studies instead of sitting in folders. I improved product and support information, maintained technical SEO and fixed theme and navigation problems myself.

Reporting

I connected social and email activity to the website through UTMs, campaign tracking and monthly reporting. That made it easier to see which work brought people to enquiry and training pages; direct traffic also rose by 31% year on year.

03 / Earned media

Four bylined features in trade publications.

I researched and wrote articles on heritage, marine repair, sustainability and material performance for national and international publications.

The job was often to interview technical colleagues, check the detail, find the part a reader would care about and turn it into a clear long-form story.

04 / Events & commercial planning

A £30k events programme planned around outcomes.

I researched, pitched, negotiated and delivered more than 20 UK and international events, then reviewed the programme against leads, meetings and revenue.

My role covered the business case, booking, stand planning, suppliers, pre-event promotion, live content and follow-up—not simply turning up on the day.

A review of £21.5k in recorded activity identified £10.4k of low-yield spend. I used that finding to recommend a more focused mix of events, Google Ads and LinkedIn Ads.

05 / Process & product

A CRM built around the way the team actually worked.

I proposed the project after seeing customer information spread across inboxes, spreadsheets and individual notes.

The problem

Customer contacts, rates, preferences and interaction history were fragmented—creating inconsistent follow-up and operational risk.

What I did

I mapped the required user roles, records, interaction logs, categories, reminders and permissions. I then worked with University of Sheffield student developers and refined the interface around staff feedback.

06 / Training & audience development

Turning technical knowledge into a national CPD programme.

I found target organisations, secured bookings, tailored presentations, managed logistics and regularly delivered accredited sessions myself.

20+sessions delivered
120–160professionals trained
30CPDs and webinars booked YTD

Audiences

Specifiers, consultants, contractors and distributors—including teams from United Utilities, Irish Water, Severn Trent, JBA Consulting, Pell Frischmann, Devon & Somerset Fire & Rescue and Cardiff-based construction professionals.

What this proves

The programme combined lead generation with public speaking, technical translation and relationship building. Sessions were often delivered in person and adapted to the audience rather than treated as a standard sales presentation.

The work helped make training a consistent part of Natural Cement's marketing and business-development programme.

About

A marketer who likes being close to the work.

I've spent the last four years working across campaigns, websites, editorial, events and customer communications. I'm comfortable moving between the planning and the practical work: writing the article, building the graphic, fixing the web page or standing on the exhibition stand.

My next move is into an industry I genuinely follow: sport, entertainment, games, television, film, books or media. I'm looking for a London-based hybrid role where I can bring the same range, but work on subject matter I care about personally.
